Michael's Story

Michael has lived with psoriasis since he was a young child. After years of struggling with the disease, he finally got the results he was looking for, as an adult, with REMICADE.

Throughout most of my life I had to deal with having psoriasis. At the same time, I had to deal with the misunderstandings of other people about my condition. For a while it seemed I wasn’t just Michael but “the guy with the skin disorder.”

When I was four, I had a severe case of strep throat. Then I developed these red spots on my arms and legs. Shortly after that, I was diagnosed with plaque psoriasis. My mother always tried to explain to people that my psoriasis wasn’t contagious. She said it was like having really dry skin, not chicken pox.

But that didn’t always work. While I lived with the symptoms of psoriasis, I was getting tired of always having to explain myself and be on the defensive. One time I was working as a counselor at a summer camp. I covered up as much as I could but one of the parents saw the psoriasis on my elbow and asked to see a note from my doctor to prove none of the kids could “catch” my psoriasis.

Finally, as an adult – and after many years of trying different treatments – I learned about REMICADE. After just four weeks of treatment with REMICADE, I saw a huge difference.

For the first time in my life I can go to the gym and sweat. My confidence level is higher than it’s ever been. Now I look forward to summer weather as well as dating and socializing more. With the help of REMICADE, people look at me and see me, Michael, not that guy with a skin disorder.
